ExiteCMS v8.0 alpha 1 available for download
Today we have made the desicion to make the first version of ExiteCMS v8 available for download. You will find it in the Download menu on the left under ExiteCMS Core, or use the shortcut on the right.

We named it 'alpha 1', since we still have a long way to go. This version contains a fully operational backend administration system. As not all user functionality is finished, and the only available content module can only deal with static HTML content, it is currently only suited for public sites with static content.

I am trying to install the v8 version, but all I get is:

The requested URL /step1.html was not found on this server.

Apache/2.2.12 (Ubuntu) Server at Port 80
I have mod rewriting loaded.

apache2handlerLoaded Modules core mod_log_configmod_logio prefork http_core mod_so mod_alias mod_auth_basicmod_authn_file mod_authz_default mod_authz_groupfile mod_authz_hostmod_authz_user mod_autoindex mod_cgi mod_dir mod_env mod_mimemod_negotiation mod_php5 mod_rewrite mod_setenvif mod_status

Any idea?

Sorry. It was the access to the .htaccess problem.

Can I just say we are extremely impressed with version 8 so far. And our customers love the new site, as well.

Big kudos go to webmaster/wanwizard/whachammacallim for his highly valued assistance in setting it up, and for his impeccably speedy responses to RFCs and bugs.

While it does take some time to get used to, the learning curve imho is not steep.

And it keeps getting better - recently "editing in place" was added for static content, it's not yet fully wysiwyg but I'm sure that will be fixed in the near future.

Congratulations on a job well done thus far!
